March 2016 Growing and Marketing Safe Produce -- Workshop

Learn how good business practices, good agricultural practices, and marketing are interconnected. Attend this workshop to learn how GAPs can help minimize food safety risks with fresh produce, are good for business, good for getting new customers and keeping the ones you already have. This workshop is intended for fruit and vegetable farmers.

PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please register by March 3, 2016.

  • By the end of this workshop, you will have:
    -Learned the most recent food safety information including GAPs audits and the Food Safety Modernization Act and what it may mean for your farm
    -Toured the warehouse facilities of Second Harvest Heartland and learned how to mitigate and problem-solve potential food safety issues on the farm before produce gets to the warehouse, and
    -Practiced writing food safety SOPs and risk assessment statements

You will receive a pre-loaded flash drive with a food safety plan template and resources to help you learn more

What to bring:
1. Pencil or pen and paper if you want to take notes.
2. Your food safety plan (if you have one)
3. All your questions!
